about
This song was the first song that I wrote from the whole EP. It was actually the first song that I was truly proud of writing and began to feel like I was finding my voice as a musician and songwriter. The song started with the opening vamp which is featured throughout as I was really into parallel chord movement at the time and loved the sound.
I had written a poem which was totally separate to the song but inspired the lyrics for the story and it slowly began to evolve into what you hear now.
This is my coming-of-age musical moment both within the story and also within my own musical voice. As you can hear from the lyrics as it evolves this song is about my own personal journey touching on my family members who have inspired and turned me into the person I am today.
lyrics
She lived just like a dancer
Her mothers way of life
Bright as a candle
Play in a garden always
Summer sun, burning on
Red as the roses
It’s painting a picture
She’s gotta live life that way
A mind just like her father
She took life more to heart
Blow out the candle
Raised in a world where life is
Made of greed, born to bleed
Red as the roses
She’s a panel, life is a window
Fire an arrow, she’ll make the wind blow
Through the willow, where will you go?
It’s painting a picture
She’s gotta live life that way
Her brother was an artist
The other moved around
Burning the candle at both ends
Life seems to steal away
Significance of innocence
Just like the roses
She’s a panel, life is a window
Fire an arrow, she’ll make the wind blow
Through the willow, where will you go?
It’s painting a picture
She’s gotta live life that way
She lived just like a dancer
Her mothers way of life
Bright as a candle
