about

This piece is taking the everyday colours and emotions one feels and using these to paint a picture of a woman’s life. The story develops from girlhood to old age using different colours to frame her emotions and life.
The guitar accompaniment gives off a Nick Drake like sound to the lament and the soft tender vocal over the top adds to the raw emotions being conveyed within the song.

lyrics

Blue is just a colour in the stories that we paint
It’s far more like a feeling causing memories of pain
Green is not a colour like the others that we see
Her beauty is in nature and her grass is always green with jealousy

Red is like the fires burning angry in her heart
All that’s left is embers from a life that’s turned to dark
Yellow is like the sunshine on her face
And yellow turns these memories into a different place

These colours shining down on me like the light through the trees
Colours finding memories from the lives that we lead

Black is like the night without a star up in the sky
A place where she has been and is the final place we lie
Orange is the sunset from a perfect evening glow
Until the hours pass and all the colours fade and go

These colours shining down on me like the light through the trees
Colours finding memories from the lives that we lead

Grey is all the clouds that cover up the morning sun
A life left in the shadows feeling empty, feeling numb
Hair of silver as she grows older now
